Peeve 1: Confusion of page layouts with colors and graphics.

Every now and then, I'll visit a site that says "New Layout!" The thing is, they don't have a new layout, not by a longshot. They may have new graphics, but the layout is unchanged.

Now, consider the page you are reading. On the top is a logo. To the right is a navigational bar. If suddenly decided to make the entire site, say, pink with purple polka dots, that wouldn't be changing the layout.

But, if for some reason, I decided to put the navigational bar on the top of the page and put the logo on the side, then I'd be changing the layout.

Please. Learn the difference between layouts and graphics.

Peeve 2: Don't you know the meaning of the word "medieval?!"

If you listened to what some people considered "medieval," they'd have you think everything from 001 AD to 1899 was medieval/Middle Ages. Dictionary.com defines "Middle Ages" as "the period in European history between antiquity and the Renaissance, often dated from A.D. 476 to 1453."

Cases in Point:

  • Someone re-uploaded one of my Sim skins to the Exchange, touting it as medieval. This outfit was reminiscent of something one might find in the 19th century.
  • In "medieval" RP's, you see players wearing trenchcoats, running around with guns, etc. I don't think so!

Peeve 3: You call THAT lyrics?

You probably know the type: the song that is only song-length because the artist had to repeat the same two verses over and over ad nauseam. Because they didn't have the talent or patience to actually write more than eight unique lines. I don't mind if one verse repeats itself, especially if it's an early verse that repeats at or near the end of the song, or if more than one verse starts in a similar manner, but good grief - listening to the same verse over and over gets old very quickly.
