Mystery
From The Writerium - the wiki for writers
Mystery novels cover the works of detective fiction, crime fiction and supernatural fiction where the main character seeks to uncover the truth about something, usually a murder or other crime, but in supernatural fiction it can just be a wierd menace.

Common Absurdities
- In crime or murder mysteries, discovering that the killer/antagonist is the main character's brother/partner/best friend.
- A good mystery presents a conundrum that the reader can face, analyze and attempt to solve through facts that appear during the story. If it does not give the reader that chance to "play detective", but leaves it up to the Big Reveal to provide the necessary facts for the solution, then it is not a mystery novel -- only a novel about a mystery.
